If you drive enough miles in a short amount of time, Waze will take you off their scoreboard and strip you of your rank. It happened to me just last month, after logging over 3500 miles in the span of about four days.
My co-driver !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! a shit-ton. Our starting point was New York, the morning of Christmas eve, and we had traveled all the way to Monterey, CA, arriving sometime the next evening.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
After a long weekend of exploring Northern California, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and throwing even more miles at my Fiesta ST so we could get to Los Angeles, I found a little surprise waiting for me in my email inbox:
I used the enclosed link to contact Waze in hopes of getting some kind of explanation for this error, but have since received no replies.
Luckily for me, I can still use the app to navigate and report things on the road. However, I cannot make map edits, my rank is displayed as zero, and I can’t compare my score to friends on the scoreboard.
Waze, if you’re reading this, please reinstate my shit.

I’m curious as to how they think your cheating, do they think you’ve mailed your powered up phone to these places (unlikely as nothing sucks a battery dry like Waze), given it other people to take with them, hacked the app to inject false data?? Also what about people who drive long distances for a living, truck drivers and traveling sales persona etc? We expect an update when\id they get back to you!

Dang. I think back to my days as a delivery driver, where I’d regularly rack up hundreds of miles a day, all day, every day. Waze didn’t exist then. If it did, I’d be running it constantly, because it’s awesome. Would I suffer this fate as well?
And, as has been stated, how does running Waze a lot fake the system? I can understand if I run it on an airplane doing 620mph across the country, but that’s easy to spot. The fakers are the people who falsely report traffic, construction, or closures on their side roads to fool Wazers into not taking the shortcut down their streets. I don’t see what lots of miles has to do with that.

It’s not really an issue for people that drive for a living, because they usually don’t log that many miles in such a short time.

I don’t know exactly how Waze works, but I suspect it’s easy to send it spoofed reports.
As for professional drivers, I’d imagine they look at patterns of use to decide if people are doing the same thing as normal or something different.

I wish google never bought Waze. They always find ways to screw good things up (like YouTube). A few months before Waze was bought by google they developed an app for Windows Phone. I was even part of the beta testing. But after google bought Waze all development was halted for WP. google is a company with jerks heading it. They’re doing all they can to stifle the success of Windows Phone. The only google product I want is Waze, but since they own it I won’t use it.

They can’t be going over the data with a fine-comb, it has to be alerted if you exceeded X amount of miles in a short time; like a rule that says “if [user] mileage is greater than 5000 miles a week, give a warning”.
So it could be they never expected that amount to ever be achieve within a set period of time, or it calculates what your average is and if you exceed it, it then throws a warning.
Regardless, it’s a silly rule that doesn’t take into account people who drive their car a lot, or for enjoyment.
It also makes me wonder, what is the magic number/mileage that you have to pass to receive a warning?

You can have your phone report a fake GPS signal.. its useful for testing and writing software. However it can also be used to cheat and say you are places that you are not. Its not hard to make it think you drove from point A to point B. when you did not ever go to either place.

I can only think of three ways to fake miles on Waze. 1. Get a really slow and low flying plane and cruise around in that. 2. Spoof the GPS in your phone to make the phone think it’s moving. 3. Crack Waze in some way that makes the system think you’re moving. I feel like all of these would be far more effort than it would be worth. Is this seriously a problem that Waze has?

I totally agree that its an algorythem that picks up abnormalities, but I’m sure truck drivers use WAZE and they drive a couple thousand miles a week. I checked the waze forum and couldn’t find anything, oh well I like the product and the social things was just a side perk. Still the best free app I have, saved me from a few tickets.

Definitely would, also the fact that you aren’t traveling on roads anymore. I don’t use Waze anymore since I don’t like how some of the short routes take you on some odd roads. Since I assume the quality of Waze’s service depends upon as many people as possible turning on the app as much as possible every time they get into a car, this seems like a real shitty thing to do to a “contributor.”
That being said, Waze, Shmaze. I tried using it for about 3-4 months, and iI found it completely and utterly worthless. The auto-zoom is too annoying and uncontrollable for local driving, and it never saw fit to warn me about upcoming traffic jams on the highways.

The other day, my friend asked me how my Snapchat score was higher than his since I rarely use it. I didn’t even know Snapchat had a score or that it was even the sort of thing you could attach a score to.
Similarly, I only sort of knew Waze had a scoring system. I’ve used it a handful of times for navigation and preferred it to other nav apps because of the fact that it shows you cops, but I can’t imagine caring about my score on it, or why you would even need a score.
